What is the difference between IV supplementation versus oral supplementation?
During iv therapy nutrients are administered straight into the bloodstream where they are instantly absorbed by blood cells and distributed throughout the body immediately. With oral supplementation vitamins are taken by mouth via tablet or capsules. They are then digested by the stomach in which only a small percentage of nutrients get absorbed into the bloodstream and usually takes 30min-1hr for nutrients to be distributed throughout the body. Since IV therapy bypasses the stomach, we can achieve full absorption of nutrients at much higher doses with fast acting effects and also avoid the stomach discomfort that comes along with taking high doses of nutrients orally… For optimal health we suggest biweekly or monthly IV therapy along with daily oral supplementation and a healthy diet. When it comes to fighting a cold/flu or feeling fatigued, tired, dehydrated, or hungover there’s nothing that compares to the fast-acting benefits of IV therapy.
Are there any contraindications for iv therapy?
- kidney disease.
- Allergy to micronutrients (this is very rare) such as vitamins, minerals, or amino acids. If you do have any allergy or sensitivity to a certain nutrient, please let us know and we can customize an IV specifically for you.
Are there any unwanted side effects of IV therapy?
There are only a few unwanted side effects that may occur during IV therapy which include:
- Discomfort at IV site. (Which can usually be corrected).
- Bruising at IV site.
- Slight taste/smell of vitamins while IV is being administered.
Does it hurt?
The number one thing that keeps someone from getting IV therapy is usually the fear of needles. We use small pediatric sized iv catheters that are usually used on children. Therefore, you will feel a quick slight pinch but nothing unbearable. We also have many years of experience starting IV’s and have the gentlest hand in the business. Our knowledge and experience starting IV’s is one of the many reasons that set us apart from other IV companies.
How long does it take?
Duration of IV therapy usually correlates with the size of patients’ vein and amount of fluid given in iv bag. A patient with larger veins will have a faster IV flow than a patient with small narrow veins. For the most part treatment times are as follows.
- 100ml iv bag: 10-15min
- 250ml iv bag: 15-30min
- 500ml iv bag: 30-45min
- 1000ml iv bag: 45min - 60min
Which size IV bag should I get?
This all depends on your hydration needs.
- drinking fluids regularly, no vomiting or diarrhea: 100ml or 250ml bag.
- moderate fluid intake, moderate vomiting or diarrhea, moderate strenuous activity, moderate heat exposure: 500ml bag.
- minimal to no fluid intake, severe vomiting or diarrhea, rigorous strenuous activity, prolonged heat exposure: 1000ml bag.
Are there any special instructions before or after iv therapy?
There are no special instructions before nor after IV therapy. There are no food restrictions, activity restrictions, or medication restrictions before or after therapy. Maintain your normal daily routine.
I take daily oral vitamins/supplements, can I still take them if I am getting an IV?
Yes, you can continue your usual daily supplementation.
How often should I get IV therapy?
This all depends on the patient’s lifestyle, medical history, and treatment goals. It is safe and common for many patients to get IV therapy, weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Please contact us to find a treatment plan to suit your specific individual needs.
